The ECOSORT is a CIP Eco-Innovation supported project, in the field of sorting of solid waste. The CIP Eco-Innovation supports projects that are concerned with the first application or market replication of eco-innovative techniques or products, which have already been successfully demonstrated, but due to remaining risks need incentives to penetrate significantly the market.
The main objective of the project is to document the environmental and economical advantages of a novel and very flexible sensor-based sorting of two common and different types of solid waste fractions:
- Industrial waste for production of low chlorine fuel for co-combustion at central power plants.
- NiCd-batteries.
The sorting systems will be full scale first generation systems. More objectives are:
- To demonstrate that the environmental impact of using the sorting technology is high quality in the recycling processes – e.g. higher recycle rates, higher value of products and less emissions
- To demonstrate that implementation of the new sensor technology is profitable for project partners using the technology, and future users of the technology and for FORCE Technology
- Tto demonstrate the flexibility of sensor based sorting systems promoting the technology to sorting or characterisation of other types of waste
- To disseminate knowledge of the technology and the results of the project through conferences, papers, the internet, personal contacts, etc.
- To market the technology to especially SME’s in EU producing sorting equipment or providing treatment of waste
- To introduce productive technologies to and enhance the qualifications of the EU waste business
- To demonstrate successful co-operation between public and private companies.
